Forgiveness: Making it Real in Everyday Life

June 22 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

With Nura Laird

We invite you to a special eight-week webinar series on forgiveness, beginning Monday, June 22, 2020     Register

Forgiving those who harm you is better than being patient, and prayer on their behalf is a lofty ethic of the genuine believers.” Sidi The Migration of the Truthful Traveler p. 53

How do we embody the forgiveness that Sidi mentions? How do we attain the reality of love and unity in our life? What about that one difficult person who’s ruining the unity we feel with everyone else? If only we could get rid of that thorn in our side, then life would be perfect! How do we forgive someone like that?

Forgiveness transforms blame, resentment, grudges, anger and pain. It softens the heart, especially toward the most challenging people in your life. Forgiveness brings you to love, unity and freedom.

Full forgiveness requires letting go on many levels. Forgiveness is especially timely now during quarantine when tension and conflict are rampant at home and within groups, and when so many are dying of Covid 19. These days you might be asking yourself: “Is anything left unfinished in my life?” “Do I have any regrets?” “Is healing needed with anyone?” “What legacy will I leave behind?”

The framework for this series is Seven Steps to Forgiveness. In her deep personal exploration of this topic, Nura identified certain barriers to full forgiveness. She walked through these seven steps:

  1. Letting go of investments and attachments
  2. Letting go of beliefs and expectations
  3. Healing unmet needs
  4. Dropping pride and arrogance
  5. Owning our mirrors
  6. Surrendering to Allah
  7. Finding gratitude

Every class contains teachings and experiential exercises to help you identify your barriers, to walk through them, and to apply the teachings in your life insha’llah.

About the Webinar:  The class will meet Mondays for one and a half hours, from 10 am -11:30 am PT (1 – 2:30 pm ET).  The class is open to all.  *We are considering offering translation, depending on the level of interest.  If you would require translation to attend, please let us know on the registration form and we will determine how to best meet the needs of attendees.

We need a minimum of 20 people registered, inshaAllah, to go forward. Once you register you will be sent a zoom link to join the class.

The suggested average donation for this 12 hour series is $99. Approximately half of the payment collected goes to the teacher, a quarter to SSC, and a quarter to the poor.  We are using an average suggested donation here because in our path (Sufism and Islam), the custom is for those who have more contribute more, and those who have less give less, to make sure the door is open for all, regardless of the ability to pay, inshaAllah.  In order to honor our teacher and have a donation to send to Jerusalem, please be as generous as you can.  Thank you!

Classes will be recorded for your use afterwards, but the recordings are only for use by those who attend the series in order to preserve safety and confidentiality for the participants.
