Residential Volunteer Program

The Door to the Residential Volunteer Program is Now Open!

Create, live and work in spiritual community as it was envisioned by our guide, inshaAllah.

In the Name of God the Most Merciful the Most Compassionate, the door has opened and guidance made clear for a Residential Volunteer Program at the SSC Mother Center in Pope Valley, California.  This very special program will offer a unique opportunity for students of Sidi, and provide much needed support for the Mother Center and our greater community, inshaAllah.

In 2005 while teaching at the Center Sidi said, “On this night God sent me the order to give this land [in Pope Valley] a name. The name of this land is ‘The Land of Peace and Love’. Why this name? This name is for those beloveds who come to live here, to hold peace and love. This means the one who carries the real love and peace. Allah shows me that everyone who comes here comes because he is thirsty for peace and love. Not only for himself, but he wants to carry the peace and love for all the people everywhere in this world. These, my beloved children, are the seeds of the tree.”

It is our intention to create a program that will give beloveds a chance to contribute to our guide’s vision. Bring your skills, experience and heart, and put them to use for the Face of Allah at the Mother Center, and we will provide for you a holy container to live and work in. While serving Allah, you will also have the opportunity to practice and live the teachings and deepen your walking through taking part in a spiritual community that is founded in the teachings of our guide Shaykh Muhammad Sa’id al-Jamal ar-Rifa’i as-Shadhuli, the Qur’an and the sunnah of our Prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.  In addition to working with other beloveds to manifest Sidi’s vision, there will be opportunity to study, worship and do daily practices together. We intend that this program will be a richly rewarding for all who take part and a blessing for the Mother Center.

For this important foundational service we are looking for beloveds who are committed to their own growth and applying Sidi’s teachings; who have the self-knowledge, strength and himma to live in a close spiritual community; who are willing to roll up their sleeves and do the hard work of preserving and nurturing the Land and caring for it as we move forward; who are firm in their walking and are able to give support and be earth for their beloved brothers and sisters; who love Allah and His Prophet and are willing to form the holy container that receives guests and students in all their different states and stations; who are humble, willing to learn; who take full possession of the promise they took with our guide and who are called to be of service through their commitment to spreading peace and cultivating harmony as their primary intention.

As a Residential Volunteer you will be asked to follow all established ethics and guidelines and participate with the upkeep and needs of the Center for a minimum of 20 hours a week. Participants may seek part time outside work, if needed, as long as their employment doesn’t interfere with their commitment at the Center. The Land is particularly in need of beloveds with experience in farming and raising animals, to support our next steps toward making our land productive in the way Sidi wanted.

If you are guided to take part in this program please know that the minimum commitment is 90 days. The first step in the process is to fill out the Residential Volunteer Application,  and then complete an interview, followed by a drafting of terms of mutual agreement for your participation in this program.

At this time we are looking for a maximum of eight Residential Volunteers.  If you have any questions about this program and whether or not it is right for you, please speak with a member of the SSC Residential Committee or send your questions to  service@suficenter.org.

As our guide would say “The door is open! Take your chance!”
